Student's Corner
TV Broadcast Studio
Our studio televises live announcements each morning. Student recognition is featured. Students operate the entire show with supervision from the media specialist. The crew consists of anchors, camera, sound and video mixer technicians, announcers, and assistants.
School improvement funds are used to provide remedial programs to non-proficient reading students after school. Several teachers also offer tutorial programs on their own for non-proficient students as a way to assist students meeting state standards.
Student Safety Patrol Program
Fifth graders with good behavior, grades, and attendance, and all their AR points, may be selected by their teachers to become Safety Patrols.
The primary purpose of the program is to enhance the safety of our students. In addition, the program promotes the development of leadership skills, good citizenship qualities, and sound academic skills.
A safety patrol’s job is to model for students the safety rules that have been taught in the classroom, to assist students in safe transitions throughout the school, to assist students as they arrive and depart school and to assist students eating breakfast in the cafeteria.
At the end of each school year, fourth graders with good behavior, grades, and attendance, and all their AR points, may be selected by their teachers to become Safety Patrols the following year. The last few weeks of school, the fourth graders will shadow current Safety Patrols in order to learn the job skills required for the next year.
Soft Skills
Soft Skills are the non-technical skills that relate to HOW you work, not just what you do for work. As a district, we began a soft skills initiative several years back after surveying local businesses and finding that employers commonly value soft skills over technical skills in hiring and employee retainment. As a school, our initiative focuses on five soft skills that we find to be central ideas in developing quality students and citizens. Those soft skills are as follows: having a positive attitude, being a team player, having a strong work ethic, being a good communicator, and being dependable and reliable. We strive to integrate these lessons into the every-day lives of our students, and encourage students and teachers alike to model these traits for one another on a daily basis.
